However, for newcomers venturing into the world of sports betting, there might still be some confusion surrounding the notion of football betting. In today's discussion, Keochuan TV aims to provide you with the most detailed information about various football bets, along with a compilation of the most popular types of football betting available today. Let's dive in!

What is Football Betting?

Football betting is the most commonly used term in football betting, especially in online betting. Simply put, football betting is a form of assessing the strength, odds, and winning chances of football teams in a match, as provided by bookmakers.

Specifically, when a player participates in sports betting, for example, in a football match between Manchester United and Liverpool, bookmakers, through their own methods (utilizing analysts, insider information, AI, predictive computing, etc.), calculate and offer odds for football betting based on each match.

Thus, it can be understood that football bets are created by bookmakers, and our task as players is to place bets on these match odds based on our predictions. Depending on the size of the bookmaker, the number of football bets in a match can vary.

Currently, for a typical football match, when a player places a bet at any bookmaker, they cannot overlook the most basic types of football bets such as:

European Handicap Asian Handicap Over/Under Corner Bet Booking Bet Both Teams to Score First Half/Full Time Result, etc. There are countless other types of football bets created by bookmakers to provide diversity for players, and each type of bet has its own significance and different ways of playing. This is the attractiveness and appealing factor that football betting brings.

In this section, Keochuan TV will explain how to interpret various types of football bets from A to Z in the simplest way for you. Don't miss out on this important content.

European Handicap 1X2

European Handicap, also known as 1X2 betting, is one of the most basic football bets that any betting enthusiast must be familiar with. This is a type of betting that requires players to have the skills and experience to predict the outcome accurately.

As the name suggests, the European Handicap 1X2 has three main options for players to place bets:

If you choose option 1, it means you are betting on the home team to win. If you choose option X, you are betting that the two teams will draw. If you choose option 2, you are betting on the away team to win. To make it more enticing, bookmakers also allow players to bet on the 1X2 outcome for either the first half or the full match.

In the definition of football betting, it has been explained that all bets are created by bookmakers, and European Handicap betting is no exception. For each match, bookmakers will offer the 1X2 odds with corresponding odds for each option.

For example, in a match between Manchester City and Inter Milan in the 2022/23 Champions League final, the bookmakers offer European Handicap odds of 1.45-4.5-7.0. So, if you believe in a victory for the "Sky Blues," you choose option 1, and if Manchester City wins, you win the bet.

Suppose you bet $100 on option 1, then the amount you receive is $100 * 1.45 = $145 (including $100 stake and $45 profit). Similarly, the explanation applies when you bet on option X or option 2.

But why are there odds such as 1.45-4.5-7.0? In fact, this is the bookmaker's calculation of the probability of occurrence for the three possibilities of a WIN – DRAW – LOSS in a match. Depending on the relative strength of the two teams, these odds will change accordingly. The greater the difference between the two teams, the higher the difference in these odds, and vice versa.

However, although European Handicap is the most basic football bet in the "betting school" field, for Vietnamese bettors, one of the most popular football bets is Asian Handicap.

Asian Handicap (AH)

The next type of football betting that Keochuan introduces to you is Asian Handicap. Known internationally as the Asian Handicap (abbreviated as AH), Asian Handicap betting is the most popular bet with a large number of Asian bettors and especially with Vietnamese bettors.

Unlike European Handicap, which has three options for placing bets, in Asian Handicap, the player's betting options are only two. Therefore, the "win-lose" nature of this bet is quite significant, and the reward is much more attractive. In this type of bet, bookmakers will add a handicap level to balance the strength of the two teams. For example, a handicap of 0.5 goals, 1 goal, 1.5 goals, 2 goals, etc.

With Asian Handicap, the team receiving the handicap is called the upper-handicap team (the stronger team), and the team given the handicap is naturally in the under-handicap position (the weaker team). Returning to the match between Manchester City and Inter mentioned earlier, if you play European Handicap, and "bet" on Manchester City to win, the profit is only 0.45 (bet $100 win $45). This is clearly an unattractive figure.

In the corresponding Asian Handicap for this match, the bookmaker offers a handicap of 1 goal for Manchester City against Inter with odds of Manchester City – Inter 0.8 0:1.25 1.1. How to play this bet is as follows:

If the player bets on the upper-handicap team (choosing Manchester City) $100, then if Manchester City wins by a margin of 2 goals or more, the player wins the bet. The profit received is $100 * 0.8 = $80 (much higher than playing European Handicap).

If Manchester City wins by exactly 1 goal (e.g., the match ends with a score of 2-1, 3-2, 4-3, etc.), the player draws the bet. The player will receive the initial $100 stake back.

If Inter draws or wins, then the player who bet on Manchester City loses $100, while the player who bet on Inter wins with a profit of $100 * 1.1 = $110.

Through the above match, the difference between European Handicap and Asian Handicap can be seen. Asian Handicap has a higher "competitive spirit," so it attracts more Vietnamese bettors to participate. There are many other AH bets such as 0.25 handicap, 0.5 handicap, 0.75 handicap, 1.75 handicap, etc., which you can refer to in previous articles that Keochuan has updated in detail.

Over/Under (O/U) Bet

If European and Asian Handicap bets are based on the match result to determine the outcome, the Over/Under bet stands out in that it does not care about which team wins or loses but only focuses on the total number of goals scored in the match.

Hence, the Over/Under bet, also known as the O/U bet in English, or simply the Totals, offers two options for players to choose from:

If you choose Over, it means you are betting that the total number of goals scored in the match will be higher than the bookmaker's set number. If you choose Under, you believe that the total number of goals will be lower than the bookmaker's set number. If the final score matches the bookmaker's predicted number, then the bet is considered a draw, and the player receives a refund. For easier understanding, consider this example:

In a match between Juventus and AC Milan, the bookmaker sets the Over/Under line at 2 goals. Therefore, the winning prospects for players are:

If you choose Over: You believe that both teams will score more than 2 goals. If the match ends with a score of 2-1, 3-2, 4-2, etc., the total number of goals will exceed 2, right? Then you win the bet.

If you choose Under: Your chance of winning is when the match has fewer than 2 goals scored, such as a score of 0-0, 0-1, or 1-0.

If the total goals scored match the set number of 2 (e.g., 1-1, 2-0, 0-2), then whether you choose Over or Under, it is considered a draw, and the bet is refunded.

Both Teams to Score (BTTS) Bet

Another popular type of football bet is the Both Teams to Score bet, commonly known as BTTS, which is an abbreviation of the phrase "Both Teams to Score" in English.
